In the aftermath of the shootings in Orlando, I had to take a step back from social media.  The sadness.  The horror.  The vitriol. The politicizing. The finger-pointing. I couldn’t take it.

Then a few days later, I see this:

Man drives 1,200 miles to deliver 49 wooden crosses to Orlando

A precious man from Chicago hand made 49 crosses honoring each of the Orlando victims and personally drove them to the hospital in Orlando so that people would have a tangible reminder.  He intends to deliver each of the crosses to the families affected.

Does this fix what happened? No, but it’s a beautiful reminder that there is more good in the world than bad. Mr. Zanis couldn’t fix what happened in Orlando but he COULD do this, and in doing so, he lifted the spirits of a lot of us.  It reminded me of the words of Mother Teresa that are really no small things when they are done with great love.

If everyone does one small thing with great love, all those things add up to a great big lovely thing… and we need more big, lovely things.

Thank you, Mr. Zanis.
