See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son,and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.”  Matthew 1:23 (HCSB)

If you spend more than five minutes watching the news, “God is with us” is hard to believe.  If you spend more than five minutes outside your door, “God is with us” is hard to believe.

When Jesus said that in this world we’d have trouble, he wasn’t kidding.  Life is hard.  Relationships are complicated.  People disappoint us and we disappoint them.  The world is broken.

That’s why Jesus came… to fix the world we broke.

God is with us.  In the unfair.  In the hurtful.  In the hospital.  In the classroom.  In the boardroom.  In the courtroom.  Jesus stands with us in the midst of our mess.  He doesn’t come in like our fairy godmother and make everything instantly better, but he never leaves us to walk through any of it alone.

God with us.  Saving us from our sin.  Saving us from ourselves.

Immanuel, the Breath of Heaven.
