Omit needless words. – William Strunk Jr.
Boy, that statement has about 84,000 shades of meaning. On it’s face, it’s great writing advice. No one wants to sit through a painfully wordy article or book. It’s also great life advice.
How many times have we regretted those words that never should have left our mouths? The words said behind someone’s back that somehow found their way to a face. The joke that shouldn’t have been shared or laughed at. Words spoken in anger that linger in the air long after the apologies are said.
Words matter… all of them. There are just too many things in this life that can’t be unsaid. Once the words are in the world outside oof your head, you can’t take them back and the damage they cause can be more than you ever anticipated.
