Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us.  We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed.  We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.  (II Corinthians 4:7-10 HSBC)

This is one of my favorite Bible passages.  It’s great stuff for a really bad day… or week… or year.

Despite all the teachers and preachers out there who say that God just wants you to be happy or rich and powerful, etc., they really don’t get it.  The Bible clearly tells us that life is not going to be fun all the time.  People are not going to always treat you well.  Family may not always be there for you.  Sometimes there will be more month than money.  Sometimes there is more on your plate than a giant with a tapeworm could possibly eat.  That’s the reality.

Here’s the hope.

Even though life is hard and unfair, God is always with us.  He loves us in the midst of our mess.  He gives us the strength to face whatever the day brings.  If we just trust Him with the results, all things WILL work for the good even if we can’t see where it’s all going.  The process sometimes is painful, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be profitable.

Jesus himself didn’t live in a bed of roses, so why do we think that we can?  Jesus suffered more than any person ever has and yet there’s a happy ending to that story, a happy ending that can apply to you too.
